G.I. Bill

Veteran Benefits

President Obama will be at George Mason University rally on Monday to celebrate the new GI Bill. But you don't have to wait until then to start planning on how you will spend your part of the $78 billion dollar package.

Veterans will be eligible starting tomorrow, Saturday, August 1, for full tuition, fees, a monthly housing stipend, and up to $1,000 annually for books. Also among those covered are members of the Guard and Reserve who spent at least 3 months or more activated for war service.

It's anticipated that almost 500,000 veterans will participate in the first year, and there are concerns that colleges and universities will be overwhelmed with the new influx military students.
